Welcome to NY Beadworks. Everything you see on this website is handmade by me, Lisa Franco.
I make all different types of jewelry but my passion and biggest inspiration is woven crystal jewelry. Beadweaving is intricate and has a unique look which is unlike the factory produced jewelry you see in stores. Though it looks delicate, it is quite durable.
For most of my designs, I don't follow patterns. Instead I find a stitch I like and make it my own by changing it up to suit the piece I want to create. I'll pass though the beads and clasps as many times as the line will fit through them and knot throughout to insure lasting quality. When beading intricate designs with small crystals I use Fireline, which is actually a tough braided fishing line. These materials and techniques make the piece able to withstand day to day wear, get wet and store for long periods of time. In addition, I use a lot of color in my designs which adds to the unique style of the piece.
My favorite material is glass. There are too many reasons list, but here are a few. Glass lasts forever (I especially love when I can work with vintage crystal beads). Crystals won't tarnish, and the pricing doesn't flucuate as much like gold or silver. Every time I recieve a new shipment I love to look at the colors, shapes, cuts and effects that can be made with crystals.
